SMSU volleyball moves to No. 15 in recent AVCA poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's volleyball team (12-4, 5-4 NSIC) moved up two spots to No. 15 in the recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) DII poll released on Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs, ranked No. 17 in the week five poll, won both their matches last weekend, defeating No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul (then No.8) in five sets, before sweeping Winona State.

SMSU is one of seven NSIC schools represented in the recent poll, with Wayne State leading the conference at No. 7. Concordia-St. Paul falls two spots to No. 10 followed by St. Cloud State at No. 11. The Mustangs are at No. 15, followed by Minnesota Duluth, who falls four spots from last week to No. 17. Northern State moves to No. 22, and Minnesota State falls three spots to No. 25.

The Mustangs continue NSIC action this week, first at home against Augustana for International Student Recognition on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. in the PE Gym. SMSU then travels to Wayne, Neb., for a Saturday match against No. 7 Wayne State at 2 p.m. Both matches are available to watch on the NSIC Network.
