MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team will host its annual 'Brown & Gold' intrasquad dual this Saturday evening inside the PE Gym. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. The scrimmage will also be streamed live on the NSIC Network.
The dual is the first chance for the public to get a look at this season's squad. SMSU fifth-year head coach
Chayse Jackson has one senior, five juniors, seven sophomores, eight redshirt freshmen and six true freshmen on the roster.
The team is headlined by NSIC Preseason 'Wrestler to Watch'
Chase Hanson, who went 8-18 last season and 1-2 in the Super Regional. This year's squad, along with Hanson, has three returning athletes who competed at the Super Region V Tournament last season, including junior
Carlo Arreola (125), sophomore
Dylan Louwagie (141), and sophomore
Evan Thompson (285).
SMSU opens the 2025-26 season on Nov. 1 at the RCTC Yellowjacket Open in Rochester, Minn. The Mustangs will compete in the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Nov. 8, and against Briar Cliff on Nov. 13, in Sioux City, Iowa.
