Mustang swimming & diving drops opening dual of 2025 season to Western Colorado

GUNNISON, Colo. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's swimming and diving team fell 165 to 113 to Western Colorado on Saturday afternoon.
 
This was the first dual for both teams for the 2025 season. The dual featured 16 swimming events including 1-meter diving.
 
In the 200-yard medley relay, a team consisting of Carla Nevi, Madelynne Storm, Maggie Johnson, and Lexi Weems finished first with a time of 1:47.30. That time broke the previous Western Colorado pool record of 1:50.19 set by Colorado Mesa.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, a team of Grace Aesoph, Elyanna Dogotch, Maggie Johnson, and Lexi Weems finished first with a time of 1:39.77, which breaks the previous Western Colorado pool record of 1:40.97 in that event.
 
In 1-meter diving, Emma Knoll finished second with a score of 160.55, and Maddie Olafson finished third.
 
Carla Nevi had a solo first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.37, and had a pair of second place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM.
 
Madelynne Storm finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.17 and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly.
 
Lexi Weems had a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.76, and first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.36. Weems broke the Western Colorado pool record in the 100-yard with the previous time being 53.09. Her 100-yard freestyle time adjusted for altitude is 52.61, which is a new personal record for Weems, is the second fastest 100-yard freestyle time in school history.
 
Grace Aespoh had two second place finishes, in the 50-yard freestyle, and tied with Madelynne Storm for second in the 100-yard butterfly.
 
Savannah Orzech finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.13.
 
Maggie Johnson had two third place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.

The Mustangs will be back in Marshall for the Alumni Meet exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 11, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Don Palm Natatorium.
