MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball program and SMSU baseball alumni will be hosting the annual SMSU Baseball Tom Rignell Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Marshall Golf Club in Marshall.
The four-person scramble tournament includes 18 holes of golf and use of a golf cart. Registration for the event begins at 11 a.m., with the tournament scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. with a shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place, along with hole prizes and other games throughout the day.
Proceeds from the tournament will go towards supporting the Mustang baseball program. SMSU head coach
Jeremy Ische and current members of the Mustang baseball team look forward to reminiscing about great Mustang baseball tales and creating new friendships. A social will also be held following golf.
Tom Rignell, who passed away at the age of 62 in 2015, played baseball for the Mustangs in the mid-1970s and was an avid supporter of all levels of baseball. Tom's son, Derek, played for the Mustangs from 2002-05.
