BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University junior right-handed pitcher
Cody Wichmann has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Central Region Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding performance versus Minot State on Monday afternoon.
Wichmann, a native of Balaton, Minn., fired a nine-inning complete game, allowing just six hits and one unearned run with six strikeouts and one walk in SMSU's 5-1 victory in Kansas City, Kan. He carried a shutout into the ninth and finished the game tossing 100 pitches with 72 for strikes. He faced four or less MSU batters in seven of the nine innings.
It's the second straight strong start for Wichmann, who tossed six innings with a career-high seven strikeouts in a no-decision versus Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 15.
Wichmann is a 2023 graduate of Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School.
SMSU, 3-4 overall, 2-4 NSIC, will play a four-game non-conference series at Truman State (Mo.) this Friday and Saturday.
