Former SMSU head men's basketball coach Anthony Odom passes away

MARSHALL, Minn. – Former Southwest Minnesota State University head men's basketball coach Anthony Odom passed away on March 31 in Lithonia, Ga., at the age of 57.
 
Odom was hired as the fifth coach in program history on June 18, 1990. He spent four-plus seasons as head coach, before stepping down on Dec. 16, 1994.
 
During his tenure as head coach SMSU compiled a record of 37-83, including 15-33 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
 
Odom also served as SMSU's interim men's athletic director during the 1992-93 academic year.
 
A native of Denmark, S.C., Odom came to SMSU after four seasons as head men's basketball coach at Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Rome Baptist Church, Denmark, S.C. The burial will be in Bamberg County Memory Gardens, Bamberg, S.C.
 
The Denmark Chapel of Carroll Mortuary will be in charge of the services.
