MARSHALL, MINN.: No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State's
Amanda Johnson earns her ninth shutout of the season as she led the Mustangs to a 5-0 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in the NSIC Tournament on Saturday.
Johnson pitched all seven innings recording 11 strikeouts while scattering six hits in the victory. The Mustangs improve to 37-8 overall and will face Winona State tomorrow, May 4, at 12 p.m. on Mustang Field.
SMSU started off the game by scoring one run in the first inning off a RBI single up the middle from
Amanda Burkhart.
Southwest then added four more runs in the second inning. The first run was scored as
Amanda Johnson hit a single through the left side and
Micki Seibring advanced to home on a fielding error by the left fielder.
Meaghan Laetsch drove in the second run with an RBI single up the middle as the third and fourth were scored due to an
Amanda Burkhart double to right field.
Burkhart led the Mustangs as she was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m. against Winona State.
