WINONA, Minn. - Winona State posted win in two of its double matches and in three of its singles matches to sneak by the Southwest Minnesota State tennis team 5-4 and hand the Mustangs a loss in their conference opener Sunday afternoon in Winona, Minn.
The Warriors improve to 3-1 (3-0 NSIC) on the season, while SMSU drops to 1-4 (0-1 NSIC).
Cailey Grupe and
Trisha Baldwin were the lone Mustang winners in doubles, picking up an 8-6 victory over WSU's Erika Richae and Amanda Asche at No. 2.
The Mustangs managed three win in singles as
Danielle Hildebrandt,
Cailey Grupe and
Angie Wiegmann all posted wins for SMSU.
The Mustangs continue play on March 6 when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take on Augustana.
