ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State belted three home runs and pitcher Sara Silke tossed a six-inning, four-hit shutout as the Mustangs defeated Valley City State 8-0 in six innings at the St. Cloud State Husky Dome Invite in St. Cloud on Sunday.
Silke struck out six Viking hitters as she recorded her second straight shutout of the weekend.
The Mustang offense smacked 12 hits in the contest, including five extra base hits. SMSU snapped a scoreless game in the third inning scoring one run, before adding two in the fourth and putting the game away with five runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Amanda Burkhart, Kristin Braden and Christine Borowiak all belted home runs to lead the Mustang offense.
SMSU plays St. Cloud State at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
