Final NSIC Championship Results

BROOKINGS, S.D. - Southwest Minnesota State women's golf team carded a a team score of 333 in Sunday's final round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships and finished with a four-round score of 1,346 to finish in sixth place of the 12-team championship at Brookings C.C in Brookings, S.D.

The final two rounds were played this weekend in Brookings, while the first two rounds were played at Hillcreast G.C. in St. Paul in early October.

Concordia won the team championship by one shot over Upper Iowa with a team score of 1,277.

SMSU freshman KC Kane shot an 8-over-par 80 on Sunday and finished the championship tied for third with a 30-over-par 318.  For her efforts, she was named All-NSIC and was also tabbed the league's newcomer of the year.

Junior Melissa Lackas was SMSU's other top 20 finisher as she shot a 48-over-par 336 to finish in 20th place.

Senior Abby Oakland tied with Kane for SMSU's low-round on Sunday with a round of 80 and finished in a tie for 24th place, while sophomore Sarah Baukol finished in a tie for 27th place.

SMSU will now await word on Monday to see if they are one of nine teams selected for the NCAA Regional Tournament on May 4-6 at Westward Ho G.C. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
