ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Winning all three doubles matches helped the Southwest Minnesota State tennis team defeat Northwestern (Iowa) 7-2 Friday night in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Mustangs improve to 2-2 (0-1 NSIC), and the Raiders move to 0-1 on the season.
Cailey Grupe and Trisha Baldwin led SMSU from the No. 1 doubles spot, defeating Julie Mineart and Jennifer Jansen, 8-0. The senior-freshmen duo of Danielle Hildebrandt and Lissa Murakami also won with a 8-1 decision over Jessica Pomerenke and Kellie Korver. Katie Carlson and Angie Wiegmann finished out doubles winning 8-3.
Murakami also recorded a win from the No. 1 singles position against Mineart (6-1, 6-0). Hildebrandt won her individual match at the No. 2 spot 6-1,6-3, while Grupe and Baldwin also recorded wins for the Mustangs.
SMSU is action again on Sunday against Upper Iowa at 4 p.m. in Owatanna, Minn.
