Mustangs Drop Two in Monday's Games in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla.
- The Southwest Minnesota State softball team struggled in its second day at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., on Monday, falling to Ferris State (Mich.) 3-1 and Truman State (Mo.) 9-0.

With the pair of losses, SMSU drops to 4-4.

Cortney Heim suffered her second loss of the season against FSU.  She gave up six hits in a complete game.

Kristin Braden drove in SMSU's lone run of the contest and finished 1 for 3 at the dish.

The Mustangs held a 1-0 advantage until the top of the fourth inning when FSU capitalized on an SMSU error and pushed in two runs to take its first lead of the game.

Another run in the top of the sixth moved the FSU lead to 3-1.

SMSU had the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Mustangs left two on base with a ground out to close the game.

In game two, TSU's Richelle vanGennip tossed a three-hit shutout and managed to close the game in five innings with a 9-0 lead.

Amy Dreesseen, Christine Borowiak and Amanda Neumann collected SMSU's hits in the loss.

Ali Honken took the loss, giving up six runs in 1.2 innings of work.

The Bulldogs' nine runs were scattered throughout the five innings.

SMSU will play California (Pa.) and Indian (Pa.) tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
