SIOUX FALLS, SD. - The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team was defeated in its final regular season contest Monday by the University of Sioux Falls in a 5-4 decision.
SMSU moves to 9-10 (4-6 NSIC), while USF improves to 2-8.
The Mustangs took the first two doubles matches of the day when Cailey Grupe and Trisha Baldwin defeated Jenny Lewellen and Laura Osterloo 8-5; Danielle Hildebrandt and Lissa Murakami also defeated Samantha Haffke and Jayme Haensel in an 8-2 decision.
Grupe and Baldwin also recorded the only singles wins for SMSU. Grupe topped Amanda Forest (6-1, 6-4) from the No. 4 position, while Baldwin defeated Haensel 6-2, 6-2.
SMSU will be in action one more time this season, when they play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
