SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Southwest Minnesota State won two out of six singles matches and one out of three doubles matches this afternoon falling 5-4 to Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
Cailey Grupe and
Trisha Baldwin both won their singles matches and paired up for a doubles win. The Mustangs are now 1-2 overall, 1-0 NSIC while Morningside is 1-0 on the season.
Grupe earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lynn Leonard and Baldwin defeated Amanda Przymus 6-3, 6-1 giving SMSU an early lead in singles.
Angie Wiegmann pulled out a victory No. 3 singles against Cassie Hein winning the first set 6-3, before losing the second set 6-7. Wiegmann then earned a 10-5 victory in the super tiebreaker to earn the match victory.
Grupe and Baldwin paired up for SMSU's only win in doubles competition. The duo picked up an 8-3 win over Amanda Przumus and Mary Horton.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to NSIC action next Saturday, Feb. 19, with a doubleheader taking on St. Cloud State at 10 a.m. and Bemidji State at 1:30 p.m. The Mustangs will then play Minnesota State Moorhead at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
