ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team went 1-1 today in dual matches against St. Cloud State and Bemidji State Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud. The Huskies defeated SMSU 8-1 before the Mustangs bounced back with a 5-4 win over Bemidji State. SMSU is now 2-3 on the season and 2-1 in NSIC play.

Cailey Grupe and Trisha Baldwin paired up for an 8-1 doubles win over Cassandra Brown and Catarina Franca. That would be the only match SMSU would win in the dual as SCSU took two doubles matches and six singles matches to down SMSU 8-1.

The Mustangs would earn their second NSIC win of the season defeating Bemidji State 5-4. Grupe and Baldwin once again paired up for a doubles win for SMSU defeating Kara Johnson and Kelli Christiansen 8-6.

SMSU won four out of six singles matches en route to a victory over BSU. Grupe defeated Kara Johnson 6-3, 6-3 at number one singles. Baldwin defeated Britney Greenwaldt 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles, and Angie Wiegmann and Kasey Uran both picked up wins for the Mustangs. Wiegmann defeated Kelli Christiansen 6-4, 6-0 and Uran beat Miranda Milless 6-2, 6-2.

The Mustangs will continue NSIC play tomorrow morning taking on Minnesota State University Moorhead at 10:30 a.m. in St. Cloud, Minn.
