Honken Fans Career-High 13 Batters in SMSU's Win over Minnesota, Crookston

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -
Augustana College defeated Southwest Minnesota State 9-4 in the first game of the Husky Dome Classic in non-conference competition hosted by St. Cloud State University on Saturday morning. The Mustangs bounced back to earn an 8-0 win over Minnesota, Crookston in five innings this afternoon.

With the win the Mustangs even their record to 4-4 on the season. Augustana improves to 7-0 on the season while Minnesota, Crookston falls to 0-1 on the season.

Southwest Minnesota State scored four runs in the first inning against the Vikings, before being shutout the rest of the morning. Jennifer Johnson went 3 for 4 with three singles and a stolen base. Amanda Voss went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Cortney Heim was the pitcher of record for the Mustangs in the loss. She is now 2-2 on the season.

The Mustangs jumped all over the Golden Eagles in the fifth inning hitting back-to-back-to-back homeruns. Dreessen started out the inning with a single. Krista Steen came up to the plate and hit a two-run homerun over the left field fence to put SMSU up 5-0.

Katie Turner followed that with a solo homerun, who was followed by Jaycee Fry who also launched a solo homerun over the right field fence.

The Mustangs have now hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns twice on the season. SMSU hit three consecutive homeruns against Metro State (Colo.) on Feb. 18.

Ali Honken struck out a career-high 13 batters, while facing 17 batters in the game and giving up just two hits in five innings. Honken is now 2-2 on the season.
