ST. PETER, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State began the day with two wins in three doubles matches before dropping five out of six singles matches in a 6-3 loss to Minnesota State (8-5, 5-2 NSIC) in NSIC tennis action on Sunday Morning. The Mustangs fall to 3-10 overall and 2-5 in NSIC play.
Cailey Grupe and
Trisha Baldwin earned an 8-6 victory over Sarah Madigan and Kathryn Gavin at No. 1 singles to give SMSU an early lead. The Mustangs would add to the lead with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles when
Angie Wiegmann and
Kasey Uran defeated Brandi Dohmen and Danni Collins.
Grupe earned SMSU's only singles with a win over Madigan at No. 1 singles. Minnesota State would go on to win the next five singles matches to defeat the Mustangs 6-3.
Southwest Minnesota State will continue NSIC play next Sunday taking on Minnesota, Crookston in Grand Forks, N.D. beginning at 8 a.m.
