SMSU tennis comes up short at University of Mary on Sunday

BISMARCK, N.D. –
The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team (0-6, 0-2 NSIC) won at two singles matches and a doubles match, but it would not be enough as the University of Mary (1-4, 1-3 NSIC) would take a 6-3 win in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.

Angie Wiegmann and Katie Kienitz got the Mustangs on the board early with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Allison Niedert and Ashley Plucker fell 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Wiegmann earned a hard fought win at No. 1 singles defeating Brianna Thomas 7-6 (3-0), 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) while Kienitz earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Megan Bosch in No. 2 doubles play.

Niedert fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to Julia Amundson and U-Mary's Ashley Tuschling was able to pick up a 6-4, 6-7 (3-0), 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 4 singles.

SMSU will return to action on March 17 with a non-conference match against Concordia-Moorhead in St. Cloud, Minn.
