KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Southwest Minnesota State's Chelsey Evans tossed a no-hitter in a 9-0 win in five innings over Holy Family University (Pa.) on Thursday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. Evans was just shy of pitching a perfect game allowing one walk in the game.

The win improved SMSU to 5-3 on the season while Holy Family drops to 5-3. SMSU lost its first game of the day losing to Ferris State University (Mich.) 10-1 in five innings.

The no-hitter marks the first for an SMSU player since Amanda Johnson threw one against Bemidji State on April 10, 2009.

Ferris State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, picking up five hits in the inning. The Bulldogs added to the lead in the top of the second scoring three runs on five hits to take a 7-0 lead.

SMSU got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Chelsey Rodenkirch belted her first career home run over the left center field fence.

That would be the only run SMSU would score before Ferris State tacked on three more runs on three hits in the top of the third inning to take a 10-1 win. Dana Bowler earned the win in the circle tossing all five innings allowing four hits and striking out three batters. SMSU's Rachel Hoeppner fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss.

Against Holy Family, the Mustangs offense got going early and finished the game with 10 hits. Amy Dreessen went 3 for 3 at the plate, including two RBIs. Rodenkirch also went 3 for 3 for the Mustangs knocking in one run.

SMSU grabbed an early lead against the Tigers scoring two runs on four hits. Kris Penick reached on a bunt single with one out before Ashley Gigax singled through the left side of the infield. After a double steal, Gigax moved to third and Penick scored the first run of the game on an illegal pitch.

Krista Steen walked before Rodenkirch beat out an infield single to load the bases. Dreessen stepped to the plate with bases loaded and one out and delivered an RBI single up the middle. On the play, Rodenkirch advanced to second base but overran the base and was thrown out while Steen was thrown out between third and home to put an end to the inning.

SMSU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Morgan Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rodenkirch who led off the inning with a single.

The Mustangs added five runs in the fifth inning to take the 9-0 win over the Tigers. All five of SMSU's fifth inning runs came with two outs in the inning.

Kaley Scearcy delivered a two RBI single through the left side of the infield in the inning making her first appearance on the season.
