MARSHALL, Minn. - Morgan Peterson and
Jazmyne Neely both hit grand slam's in Southwest Minnesota State's 11-1 (6) win over Concordia-St. Paul in game one but CU's big third inning in game two dropped SMSU by a score of 9-2.
In game one, the grand slam was Peterson's second of the season and her fifth home run of the year. Neely's grand slam was the first of her career and her first career home run.
Rachel Hoeppner (9-13) had a strong outing for the Mustangs as she picked up the win by working six innings, scattering six hits and one earned run. Hoeppner struck out six while walking three.
Concordia's Ashley Kluever (16-7) suffered just her seventh loss of the season as she gave up all 11 runs, 10 being earned. She walked eight Mustangs but also struck out eight.

Jazmyne Neely all turned in multi-hit performances in the win. Peterson collected five RBIs, while Neely drove in four.
In game two, Concordia St. Paul strung some early hits in the first inning to get three runs. The Golden Bears got back-to-back RBI singles from Brynn Larsen and Missie Feuerbach. CU capped its scoring in the first with a RBI SAC fly to right field.
Getting SMSU on the board in the bottom half of the inning was
Amy Dreessen and her blast to right field making it 3-1. Peterson would also hit a solo home run an inning later, her second of the doubleheader.
After having their lead cut to 3-2, the Golden Bears exploded for six in the third inning. CU would get six runs on six hits and two Mustang errors. The Golden Bears would ride the big third inning to victory as the Mustangs were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Rachel Groff (5-6) suffered the loss as she lasted just two frames, allowing seven hits, six runs, and two walks. Hoeppner came in relief and worked five innings, allowing six hits three unearned runs and walked one.
Alysse Luttman (2 for 3) led the way for SMSU as she was the only hitter to record multiple hits.
Amy Dreessen (1 for 4) and
Morgan Peterson (1 for 2) each hit their sixth home runs of the year.
SMSU will be back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a crucial NSIC doubleheader with Northern State.
