MARSHALL, Minn. - Alysse Luttman scored from first on a throwing error in the eighth inning to lift Southwest Minnesota State to a 1-0 victory in game one and a big first inning in game two led SMSU to a 6-1 win in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action versus MSU Moorhead on Sunday.
In game one, The throwing error by Morgan Lynch allowed Alysse Luttman to score from first.
Shelbie Stoll laid down a SAC bunt to third and Lynch sailed the throw into right field.
The first seven innings were a pitchers dual as SMSU starting pitcher
Rachel Hoeppner and MSUM starting pitcher Morgan Nybo took shutouts into the eighth inning.
Hoeppner (12-13) would pick up the victory after working eight scoreless innings, scattering seven hits and striking out seven.
Just three Mustangs picked up hits in the game as SMSU collected just five hits in the game.
Morgan Peterson (2 for 3), Alysse Luttman (2 for 2, R, BB) each collected multi-hit performances, while
Amy Dreessen finished 1 for 3.
In game two, SMSU jumped on MSU Moorhead early as it pushed across six runs in the first frame. MSUM extended the inning several times as it committed four errors. The six runs was all SMSU would score and all that starting pitcher
Rachel Hoeppner (13-13) and reliever
Rachel Groff would need as they combined to allow just one unearned run over seven innings. Hoeppner exited after five innings of one-hit softball.

Amy Dreessen with two outs in the top of the seventh to a standing ovation from the Mustang faithful. Dreessen was playing in her final game in a Mustang uniform and finished her career season with a base hit to center in her last at-bat just a half inning earlier. Dreessen finished her season with a .436 batting average and set the new SMSU single season record. She also set the record for highest on-base-percentage in a single season with her mark of .554. Dreessen finished just shy of setting the record for slugging percentage in a single season as she finished with a .726 mark, just .002 behind Amanda Burkhart's mark set in 2009.
In 2013, Dreessen set career highs in runs (28), hits, (51), doubles (12), triples (2), RBIs (28), slugging percentage (.726), walks (29), on-base-percentage (.554) and fewest strikeouts (14).
Dreessen leaves the SMSU program ranked within the top five in SMSU history in on-base-percentage (.436), walks (91), hit-by-pitch (13), chances (1,311), putouts (1,269), doubles (33), and home runs (18). She ranks in the top ten in total bases (259), slugging percentage (.512) and RBIs (92).
SMSU finished the 2013 season 19-21 overall, 12-16 in the NSIC, and failed to qualify for the NSIC tournament for the second consecutive season. The Mustangs will welcome back eight starters and 15 letterwinners for the 2014 season.
