ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Minnesota Duluth swept Southwest Minnesota State with a pair of 2-1 victories in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at the Husky Dome on Saturday night. UMD won 2-1 in the ninth inning in game won and won once again by the same score in game two.
In game one, The Mustangs were limited to just three hits but scored the first run of the game. The Mustangs would let the slim lead slip away in the bottom of the fourth and eventually succumbed in extra frames to drop to 10-11 overall, 3-6 in the NSIC.
Rachel Hoeppner (8-8) suffered the loss -- pitching eight innings allowing two runs, both unearned. Mustang hitters struck out 13 times compared to The Bulldogs, who didn't strike out in any of their 31 at-bats.
In game two, SMSU limited UMD to just three hits until the last inning. UMD got two hits in the bottom of the seventh, including the walk-off single to right field by Tyra Kerr.
Rachel Groff put up a quality start for SMSU, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out three but she walked four batter.s Hoeppner (8-9) picked up the loss as she relieved Groff in the sixth inning and surrendered the walk-off single.

Amy Dreessen who went 1 for 4 with a RBI. No Mustang recorded a multi-hit game.
SMSU (10-12, 3-7 NSIC) will turn around tomorrow and play St. Cloud State in a NSIC doubleheader set for 3 p.m. at the Husky Dome.
