Mustang tennis heads to Sioux Falls for pair of NSIC matches

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team (1-4, 0-3 NSIC) returns to action this weekend when Mustangs travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., for Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches versus Augustana College and Minnesota Crookston. The matches will be played at the Sioux Empire Fitness Center in Sioux Falls.

The matches will be SMSU's last conference matches of the month of February and much of March as the Mustangs will embark on a five-day trip to Mesa, Ariz., over spring break to play seven non-conference matches beginning March 11.

Augustana owns unblemished records of 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC to start the season. The Vikings have shutout four opponents and have dropped just one team point throughout the course of the one-month-old season.  The Vikings return four of their regular top-six athletes for the 2014 season, including Katie Jesperson, who was named NSIC Player of the Year in 2013. AC is coming off 9-0 and 8-1 wins over Minnesota State and U-Mary last weekend, respectively.

Minnesota Crookston enters the weekend 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles recorded their lone win over Minnesota Duluth by a score of 5-4 on Feb. 8, 2014, in Sartell, Minn. Since then, UMC dropped matches to MSU Moorhead, 7-2, and Minnesota State, 8-1.
