WINONA, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team wrapped up the 2014 regular season by falling 6-3 at the hands of the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Sunday. The Mustangs finish the season 3-16 overall and 1-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Mustangs picked up a victory by injury default in No. 3 doubles to get on the board early. SMSU would get another point due to injury default later with
Samantha Ritter taking the win at No. 6 singles.
Crystal Overbaugh,
Katie Kienitz,
Shelby Monahan and
Kayla Uphus all fell in their respective singles matches to give Upper Iowa the edge.
SMSU's third and final match point came with
Erin Bones' convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Laura Alvarez in No. 5 singles.
The Mustangs finished tied for tenth in the NSIC with their 1-10 conference mark. The top eight teams in the conference will compete in the 2014 NSIC Tournament Championships on April 26-27 at the Lifetime Fitness Oakdale in Minnetonka, Minn.
