SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 13 Augustana College's Janelle Trautmann and Karlee Koopman combined to toss a one-hitter to defeat Southwest Minnesota State University 7-0 in game one of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader played on Tuesday at Bowden Field.
Game 1 | Augie 7-0Kaley Scearcy's single through the left side in the fourth inning broke up starting pitcher Trautmann's no-hit bid. Trautmann worked six complete innings and struck out nine Mustangs before giving way to Koopman, who pitched a perfect seventh.
Rachel Hoeppner (7-11) worked all six innings for the Mustangs and gave up seven runs, five of which were earned, on eight hits, walked one and struck out four.
Augustana received multi-hit performances from Carly Peterson and Sarah Kennedy while Jordan Schaffer picked up two RBIs in the contest.
Game 2 | Augie 6-0Augustana, fueled by a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth and sixth, downed SMSU 6-0 to complete the two-game sweep on Tuesday. SMSU was blanked in each contest and combined to earn just five hits in the doubleheader.
Alex O'Connor (4-13) took the loss for the Mustangs in game two as she gave up six earned runs and six walks in six innings of work.
SMSU (8-24-2, 8-11-1 NSIC) will return to Mustang Field to close out the 2014 home schedule when the Mustangs host Winona State and Upper Iowa on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19. Saturday is senior day as the Mustangs will celebrate the careers of two senior members --
