SMSU earns first win over Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. —
The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team earned its first win of the season as it defeated Gustavus 7-2 in a non-conference matchup Sunday morning.
 
SMSU earned two wins in the double matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Katie Kienitz and Mariya Krumm took the match 8-2 at No. 2 before Nicole McQueen and Ashley Hoehne won 8-5 at the No. 3 doubles.
 
In the singles, Gustavus took the No. 1 singles but Crystal Overbaugh started the winning at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Kienitz took her match at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-3 score before Krumm fought a hard come-back match at No. 4 to earn a 1-6, 6-2, 10-2 win. At the No. 5 spot, Hoehne won by an 8-5 score followed by McQueen at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will travel to Winona, Minn., next week for NSIC matches against Winona State on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Upper Iowa on Sunday at 1 p.m.
