WINONA, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team came up short this weekend as it lost to Winona State 7-2 Saturday night before losing to Upper Iowa, 9-0 on Sunday at the Winona Tennis Center.
On Saturday night, the Mustangs faced Winona State as
Nicole McQueen and
Ashley Hoehne scored the first point at the No. 3 doubles with a hard fought 9-7 match.
Winona State took the first four matches of singles before Hoehne won her match at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Winona State moves to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC while SMSU falls to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
On Sunday, SMSU took on Upper Iowa in the final match of the weekend. UIU started with a 3-0 lead after the three doubles matches as they took each by a score of 8-2.
The Peacocks continued to hold control over the Mustangs going into the singles as they took each match to earn the sweep.
Upper Iowa improves to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC while SMSU moves to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the NISC.
The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team will travel to Minnetonka, Minn., next weekend to take on U-Mary and MSU Moorhead on Saturday before gearing up for its spring trip to Phoenix, Ariz., March 7-14.
