FIRST PITCH - The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team will travel to West St. Paul Tuesday, for a non-conference doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set to be at 12 p.m from the West St. Paul Dome.
SMSU is picked to finish 11th overall in the NSIC. The Mustangs finished the 2014 campaign 11th overall with a 12-17-1 record in the NSIC and 15-30-1 overall.
ABOUT UMD - The Bulldogs, picked to finish fifth in the Northern Sun, finished last season with a 25-21 overall record and 11-8 in the NSIC. UMD carries a 6-3 overall record so far this season after opening up the season in Bentonville, Ark., and in West St. Paul. The Bulldogs return 2014 All-NSIC First Team and Gold Glove selection, junior Sami Schnyder at third base, along with junior right-handed pitcher Cayli Sadler as "Players to Watch" in 2015. Schnyder finished 2014 hitting .389 while Sadler posted a 19-11 record and 2.80 ERA a season ago, walking 64 batters in 190.1 innings pitched.
UMD SERIES HISTORY - Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota Duluth will meet for the 91st and 92nd time on Tuesday with UMD holding a 59-31 advantage in a series that started back in the 1977 season. Jamie Dunn is in her second season as head coach at Southwest Minnesota State University and has compiled a record of 18-31-1, including 12-17-1 in NSIC play. Prior to SMSU, Dunn spent the 2013 season as assistant coach at NCAA Division II Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo., and three seasons as head coach at Fruita Monument High School.
