SMSU tennis closes busy weekend on Sunday

ST. PETER, Minn. –
The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team suffered three losses this weekend against tough competition at the Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Gustavus.
 
SMSU (0-4, 0-3 NSIC) opened play on Saturday with a 6-3 non-conference setback to Gustavus, before returning to conference play and falling 9-0 to Augustana University on Saturday night. The Vikings have won the last six NSIC regular season championships.
 
SMSU closed the weekend with a 9-0 loss on Sunday morning to the University of Sioux Falls.
 
In the loss to Gustavus, Ashley Hoehne and Britney Thompson picked up an 8-1 win for the Mustangs at No. 2 doubles. Both Hoehne and Thompson earned victories in singles play as well, with Hoehne winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4, while Thompson picked up a 7-6, 2-6, 15-13 victory at No. 5.
 
Southwest Minnesota State continues conference play next weekend with matches versus Winona State on Saturday, Feb. 20, and Upper Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D.
