The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team will continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action this week as it travels to Minnesota State for a midweek doubleheader. The Mustangs will take on the Mavericks on Wednesday starting at 2 p.m., from the MSU Softball Diamond.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA STATE
The Mavericks will enter Wednesday's doubleheader 35-12 overall, 18-5 in the NSIC and is riding a four game winning streak after sweeping U-Mary and Minot State. MSU is batting .331 and has 82 extra base hits, 13 home runs and is slugging .440. The Mavericks are led by McKenzie Paap who has a .438 batting average, 33 runs scored, 63 hits, 12 extra base hits and 24 RBIs. Dana Mogren adds to the offense with a .371 batting average, 34 runs scored, 53 hits, 11 extra base hits and a team high 39 RBIs. Coley Ries the Mavericks in the circle with a 1.34 ERA and a 21-5 record. Minnesota State head coach Lori Meyer is in her 31 season with 1,083-637 overall record.
MINNESOTA STATE Â SERIES HISTORY
Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State will meet for the 84th and 85th times on Wednesday with MSU holding a 60-23 advantage in a series that started in 1975. SMSU has lost the last six games, with its last win coming back in 2013, which also snapped a five game skid. MSU holds a 27-10 record in games away from Marshall with its last win in Mankato coming back in 2010.
THE COACH
Jamie Dunn is in her third season as head coach at Southwest Minnesota State University and has compiled a 57-85-1 overall record and a 34-41-1 in the NSIC. Prior to SMSU, Dunn spent the 2013 season as assistant coach at NCAA Division II Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo., and three seasons as head coach at Fruita Monument High School. SCOUTING SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE
The Mustangs continued NSIC action last weekend and struggled against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. The Beavers swept SMSU last Sunday by scores of 2-0 in game one and 2-1 in the final game. SMSU looked to rebound against Minnesota Crookston on Monday and won the first game 11-4, which snapped a five-game skid. SMSU looked to pick up a sweep in game two against the Golden Eagles, but a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh gave UMC a 6-3 win. SMSU is 15-26 overall, 11-13 in NSIC play and is sitting in 10th in the NSIC standings. Sophomore second baseman
Sam Flack leads the Mustangs with a .357 batting average, while tallying 41 hits, seven extra base hits and 20 RBIs. Junior shortstop
