MINNEAPOLIS – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team opened the 2017 calendar season this morning with a 7-2 non-conference victory over Hamline University at the Baseline Tennis Center.

SMSU (2-2) earned two victories in doubles to build an early 2-1 lead. At No. 1 doubles,
Gabby Tellijohn and
Paige Janka earned an 8-6 victory, while
Hannah Starke and
Britney Thompson picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Tellijohn rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2) win at No. 1,
Britney Thompson picked 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4, while Gannott won at No. 5 to help the Mustangs to the victory.
Hannah Starke at No. 2 singles, Soupir at No. 6 singles each won by default.
