DES MOINES, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's track & field teams had several individuals and relay teams compete Friday at the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College.
The SMSU men's 4x200 relay team of
Dallin Finley,
Ben Ryan,
Matt Konrad and
Gabe Galamue recorded a school record time of 1:29.33 to finish eighth out 19 in the college division.
SMSU's sprint medley team of Ryan, Galamue,
Zach Jones and
Chris Kveseth recorded a 13
th place finish crossing the line in 3:34.10.
SMSU's 4x100 men's relay team also competed but did not finish because of a dropped baton.
The SMSU women's 4x400 relay team of
Kim Shabino,
Nikki Atwood, Kristin Weber and
Sarah Mayfield also ran at Drake, and placed 22
nd overall with a time of 4:09.57.
In Indianola, Iowa, on Friday, the Mustang men's team was led by
Bashir Aidrus, who placed third in the steeplechase with a time of 9:55.61.
Austin LaFollette also had a strong meet with a fourth place time of 54.61 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Samantha McNeel ran 16.47 in the 100 meter hurdles to finish 24
th out of more than 50 competitors.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to action on Wednesday at the MSU Twilight in Mankato, before competing at the Howard Wood Relays on May 5-6 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
