MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's team continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this Friday and Saturday in Bismarck, North Dakota.
SMSU (3-4, 1-3 NSIC) will take on the University of Mary (1-3, 1-3 NSIC) on Friday starting at 3 p.m., before facing MSU Moorhead (4-1, 3-1 NSIC) on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Both matches will be played the Capital Racquet & Fitness Center.
SMSU is coming off a split of a pair of NSIC matches last weekend, defeating Upper Iowa, 6-3, before losing to Winona State, 8-1.
SMSU is 1-12 all-time versus UIU since the two teams first met in 2007. SMSU's lone victory came during the 2010 season.
Freshman
Cora Delich has a team-high three victories for SMSU at No. 2 singles this season, while sophomore
Hannah Starke has a pair of wins at No. 3 singles. SMSU's No. 1 doubles pairing of Deleich and senior
Gabby Tellijohn are 2-5 overall, while the No. 2 doubles team of Starke and sophomore
Paige Janka split its two matches last weekend, playing for the first time together this season.
UMary holds 7-4 all-time advantage in the series and has won the previous six meetings. SMSU's last win came during the 2011 season.
SMSU and MSU Moorhead meet for the 38
th time with SMSU holding a 20-16 advantage, but MSUM has won the last four matches.
Southwest Minnesota State opened NSIC play last weekend with losses to Sioux Falls and Augustana.
