RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team opened its 2018-19 dual match season on Sunday with a pair of victories in Wisconsin.

SMSU opened the day with a 9-0 victory over Wisconsin-Stout, before earning a 5-4 win over Wisconsin-River Falls.Â

In win over UW-Stout,
Cora Delich picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while
Olivia Watzke earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
Hanna Himmelman earned a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) win at No. 3 singles, while teammate
Hannah Starke earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Paige Janka at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2) and
Gabby Potthoff at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0) both recorded straight set victories to complete the sweep.

Watzke and Starke earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, Delich and Potthoff won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Janka and Himmelman picked up an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

In the match versus UW-River Falls, Starke clinched the victory with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 3 singles.
Cora Delich lost the first set at No. 1 singles, but her opponent retired with an injury to give SMSU one team point. Watzke lost 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, while Himmelman dropped a close 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6) match at No. 4, but Janka won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5, while Potthoff won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 to help SMSU

Southwest Minnesota State will have its first home dual match on Wednesday taking on Northwestern College (Iowa) at Marshall High School starting at 4 p.m..
