MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team opened its fall home season on Tuesday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Northwestern College (Iowa) played at the Marshall High School courts.

SMSU, now 3-0 overall, opened the match taking all three doubles points to open a 3-0 lead.
Olivia Watzke and
Hannah Starke picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Cora Delich and
Gabby Potthoff cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. NWC, 0-1 overall, forfeited at No. 3 doubles to complete the doubles sweep for the Mustangs.

In singles play, Delich earned a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Jacque Ingram at No. 1. Watzke battled but lost 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-1) to Zoe Holscher at No. 2, but SMSU cruised in the other three matches to seal the win. Starke won 6-0, 6-0 over Rosehelen Cordova at No. 3, while Potthoff earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Emma Van Drie at No. 4.
Paige Janka also recorded a victory by beating Abby Petrick, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. NWC forfeited at No. 6 singles to complete the SMSU victory.
