SMSU remains perfect on spring trip with win at Ottawa

SURPRISE, Ariz. –
The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team remained perfect on its spring trip with a 5-2 victory over Ottawa University (Ariz.) at the Surprise Tennis Facility on Saturday.
 
SMSU, which is 3-0 on the trip, improves to 10-8 overall. The 10 victories are the highest total in program history since the 1992 team won 14 matches.
 
The Mustangs cruised in double plays to earn the one team point as all three teams won in straight sets.
 
In singles play, SMSU lost at both No. 1 and No. 2, but the Mustangs won the four other matches to secure the victory. Daniela Flores at No. 3, Hannah Starke at No. 4 and Gabby Potthoff at No. 6 all won in straight sets, while Hanna Himmelman won by scores of 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will have Sunday off before returning to the court on Monday with a match at the University Saint Katherine in San Marcos, Calif., starting at 3 p.m. CDT.
