DULUTH, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team lost a pair of NSIC matches this weekend at the Duluth Indoor Tennis Center.
On Saturday, SMSU lost 7-0 to St. Cloud State, while on Sunday the Mustangs lost 6-1 to Minnesota Duluth.
In the loss to SCSU,
Cora Delich dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match at No. 1 singles, while
Paige Janka lost 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
Cara Berkner (No. 3),
Rachel Steffen (No. 4) and
Taylor Bonestroo (No. 5) all lost in straight sets.
In doubles play, Delich and Janka lost 6-3 at No. 1, while Bonestroo and Berkner dropped a 6-0 match at No. 2.
In the match versus UMD, SMSU lost the doubles point as Delich and Janka lost 6-1, while Bonestroo and Berkner fell by a 6-1 score.
Delich picked up a point for SMSU with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Janka battled but lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Berkner lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Bonestroo dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 4.
SMSU had to forfeit the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles in both matches.
SMSU (0-4) is back on the court next weekend taking on Bemidji State on Saturday and Minnesota Crookston on Sunday. Both matches will take play at the Owatonna West Tennis Center in Owatonna, Minn.
