ROCHESTER, Minn. –
Winona State, ranked No. 13 nationally, rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the seventh inning with five runs to earn a 6-2 win in game two and sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Southwest Minnesota State in college softball on Friday inside the RCTC Dome. WSU, playing its first games of the season, won the opener 5-1.

SMSU drops to 4-2 overall and return to action next Friday with a non-conference doubleheader versus Minot State in St. Cloud, Minn.

In game two, SMSU trailed 1-0 in the fifth before Bailey Johnson drilled a solo home run to tie the game.

The Mustangs would take their only lead of the game in the home half of the sixth. With one out, Lileya Kebos singles and was moved to third on an opposite field single by Jillian Noel. Madison Krog then lofted a sac fly to score Kebos and give SMSU a 2-1 advantage.

The lead however was short-lived, as the Warriors, who have now defeated the Mustangs 27 straight times since 2009, pushed across five runs on five hits in the top of the seventh to regain the lead.

SMSU threatened in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but a double play ended the threat and the game.

Shelby Bloemendaal (1-1) tossed the complete for the Mustangs, allowing six runs on 10 hits with one strikeout.

SMSU finished game two with nine hits as Johnson, Kebos and Madysson Schliinz all collected two hits each.

In the opener, WSU scored four runs in the second and never looked back in picking up the win.

SMSU scored its lone run in the top of the fourth behind an RBI double from Emma Grote to score Schliinz. Johnson, Grote, Kali Tomlinson, Noel, Kebos and Krog all had one hit in the opener for the Mustangs.

Allison Christians (1-1) started in the circle in game one for the Mustangs and lasted two innings and allowed four runs on three hits and four walks. Megan Cull fired four innings of relief and allowed just one run on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
