AUSTIN, Texas – Southwest Minnesota State University senior track & field student-athlete
Rebecca Manteuffel, has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women's Track & Field/Cross Country second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-America® teams' program.
Today's announcement is the 25th time in school history, including the second this academic year, an SMSU student-athlete has earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors. SMSU has recorded 18 CoSIDA Academic All-America® honorees since 2009. SMSU senior swimmer Gabriela Reis was named CoSIDA Academic All-America® third team on Aug. 5.
Manteuffel is the first SMSU women's track & field student-athlete to earn Academic All-American honors in program history.
A native of Cologne, Minn., Manteuffel carried a 3.76 GPA in elementary education. She capped off an outstanding four-year career at SMSU earning All-American honors during both the 2021 indoor and outdoor seasons.
In the indoor season, she earned All-NSIC honors at the NSIC Championships finishing third in the shot put and also placed fourth in the weight throw. Manteuffel qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships for a third straight season and picked up All-American honors in the weight throw with an eighth-place finish of 18.48m.
During the outdoor season, Manteuffel earned All-NSIC honors in both the discus and shot put finishing second in both events at the NSIC Championships. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both the discus and shot put, earning All-American honors in both events. She placed eighth in the discus at 46.91m and was ninth in the shot put at 14.85m.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors to student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
