MARSHALL, Minn. – The No. 23 ranked Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team claimed its first dual victory on the season defeating Minnesota State Moorhead inside the PE Gym on Saturday afternoon by a score of 22-12.
SMSU won six bouts and earned bonus points in three victories, improving to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC on the season.
Despite losing the first three bouts of the night, SMSU would go on to win six of the last seven matches.
Luke Peterson and
Sean Howk kick-started the scoring for the Mustangs, with their 15-4 and 12-4 major decision wins respectively.
Coming out of intermission,
Lucas Hodges picked up an 8-4 decision victory before
Caden Steffen had an incredible performance picking up a 24-8 tech fall win in 5:17.
The Mustangs will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., to compete at the Midwest Classic on Dec. 17-18.
