ROGERS, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team opened the spring season on Saturday earning a pair of victories inside the Rogers Tennis Center, defeating Bethel 6-3 and Hamline 7-0.
In the first match of the day versus Bethel, the Mustangs earned a pair of hard-fought victories in doubles play.
Cora Delich and
Roz Oye won 8-4 at No. 2, while
Maja Louisa Harck and
Joana Reis Indio picked up an 8-6 victory.
Reis Indio won 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-1) at No. 2 singles, with Delich picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3.
Kristina Vuksanovic earned a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 4, with
Abbey Agra also winning at No. 6 by scores of 6-4 and 7-6.
In the win over Hamline, Delich and Oye combined to earn a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles with Reis Indio and
Marisol Palacio earning a 6-1 victory at No. 2 and
Daniela Poulakidas and Agra recording a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
SMSU won each of the singles matches in straight sets with Reis Indio at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Delich at No. 2 (7-5, 6-1), Agra at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2), Poulakidas at No. 4 (6-4, 6-3), Oey at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) and Palacio at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1).
SMSU, 6-1 in duals this season, following a 4-1 fall season, opens NSIC play next Saturday versus Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston in Owatonna, Minn.
