LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Sally Gallagher shot her second consecutive round of 7-over 78 to earn a tie for fourth place overall at 14-over 156 and help the Southwest Minnesota State University women's team to a sixth-place finish at the 12-team SMSU Spring Invitational played at the par 71, 5,702-yard Wigwam Blue Golf Course.
SMSU, which shot a 328 on Monday, carded a score of 329 on Tuesday to finish at 89-over 657.
UC-Colorado Springs rallied from a 16-shot deficit following round one to win the team title with a 65-over 633. Nebraska-Kearney, which led after round one, placed second with a 67-over 635.
Allycia Gan from Missouri Western State earned medalist honors in the 80-player field with a 7-over 149 (76-73).
Gallagher on Tuesday had four birdies, including three on the back nine, along with five pars in shooting her fourth straight sub-80 round and fifth of the season.
Courtni Frank and
Danielle Podoll both tied for 25
th overall with final scores of 24-over 166. Frank shot a steady 10-over 81 on Tuesday with 10 pars, while Podoll finished at 11-over 82 with one birdie seven pars.
Jacqueline Gossen had one birdie and six pars in the final round to help finish with a score of 17-over 88 and tie for 43
rd overall at 29-over 171.
Ashley Trongard placed tied for 49
th with score of 34-over 176 following Tuesday's round of 22-over 93 which included five pars.
Anneke Weg and
Lauryn Driscoll both played well as individuals in the tournament. Weg has six pars and 12 bogeys on Tuesday to shoot a 12-over 83 and finish tied for 21
st at 23-over 165. Driscoll notched two birdies, four pars and 12 bogeys in shooting a 10-over 81 and earning a tied for 32
nd overall at 25-over 167.
Sydney Noel improved from her opening round with a 23-over 94 on Tuesday with six pars and closed in a tied for 72
nd.
Southwest Minnesota State will next be in action on Thursday hosting the four-team SMSU Challenge at Coldwater Golf Club in Avondale, Ariz. Joining SMSU include Bemidji State, Minnesota Crookston, and MSU Moorhead.
