FARIBAULT, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team opened its 2022 fall season on Monday shooting a 44-over-par 332 and is currently tied for first place at the five-team Maverick Invite held at the Faribault Golf & Country Club. The 36-hole invite concludes on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start.
SMSU's
Sally Gallagher and
Courtni Frank each shot a team-low 10-over-par 82 and are tied for fourth overall in the 35-player field. Frank is playing as an individual in the two-day event. Gallagher had one birdie and six pars during the round, while Frank recorded one birdie and seven pars.
Danielle Podoll and
Jacqueline Gossen both carded an 11-over 83 and are currently tied for eighth overall. Podoll closed with a pair of birdies and six pars with Gossen racking up one birdie and eight pars.
Ashley Trongard had eight pars and shot a 12-over 84 to currently sit in 12
th place, while
Lauryn Driscoll finished with a 13-over 85 and is tied for 14
th overall following a round which included eight pars.
Natalie Bohnert,
Berkley Steffen and
Meghan Pundsack all played as individuals for the Mustangs. Bohnert is tied for 23
rd with an 18-over 90, Steffen is tied for 28
th at 22-over 94, while Pundsack shot a 97 to sit in 30
th place. Bohnert and Steffen each had one birdie on Monday.
Anna Cihak and Sammy Youngquist from Minnesota State both finished with scores of 7-over 79 and hold a one-shot lead over teammate Kelly Winter.
The University of Jamestown is in third place at 350, followed by Bemidji State (366) and Minot State (369).
