MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team will host the 24
th annual EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the 5,969-yard, par 72 Marshall Golf Club. The 36-hole invite begins on Saturday with tee times starting on both hole 1 and 10 at 9 a.m. The final round will begin with a shotgun start on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
Nearly 85 individuals are expected to compete from 12 teams including Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana, Bemidji State, Chadron State, Concordia-St. Paul, Gustavus, Jamestown, Minnesota State, Minnesota Crookston, MSU Moorhead, Sioux Falls, and Wayne State.
SMSU will tee off on Saturday starting on hole 1 at 9:48 a.m.
Augustana won the 2021 invitational with a score of 603 (+27). Molly Stevens from Augustana captured the individual title with a tournament record 2-under-par 142.
SMSU, which finished seventh out of 10 teams at the 2021 invite, has won the team title twice (2000 & 2005) during the 23-year history of the event.
This weekend will be the fourth competition for SMSU this fall. The Mustangs competed this past weekend winning the three-team Tipsinah Mounds Invite in Elbow Lake, Minn., with a two-round score of 60-over 620.
Junior
Lauryn Driscoll leads SMSU this season through six rounds with a 79.8 average, while senior
Sally Gallagher (80) and
Courtni Frank (80.8) rank second and third respectively on the team.
Following this weekend, SMSU will compete at the Augustana Fall Region Preview on Oct. 8-9 and the Midwest Classic Invite on Oct. 17-18.
