MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team opened the first round of the EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invite shooting a 53-over-par 341 and is currently in eighth place at the 12-team event.
The 36-hole tournament is taking place at the par-72 Marshall Golf Club. Sunday's final round begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
Augustana and Chadron State are the leaders after the first round with scores of 22-over 310.
Annika Reierson from Gustavus is the individual leader following an even-par 72 with five birdies and eight pars.
SMSU's
Lauryn Driscoll and
Sally Gallagher both carded scores of 12-over 84 and for 38
th. Driscoll finished the round with seven pars, while Gallagher had one birdie and eight pars.
Danielle Podoll is tied for 45
th place following a 14-over 86, which included one birdie and six pars.
Jacqueline Gossen shot a 15-over 87 with seven pars, while
Courtni Frank also shot an 87 with six pars with both tied for 48
th.
SMSU has four players compete as individuals this weekend.
Berkley Steffen had a strong round with third birdies and five pars on her way to an 11-over 83 to sit in a tie for 32
nd. Ashley Trongaard also shot an 83 with an eagle on the first hole and five pars, while playing as an individual.
Natalie Bohnert shot a 13-over 85 with one birdie and five pars to sit in a tie for 42
nd.
