MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team closed play in the annual EverSpring Inn & Suites Invite on Sunday shooting a 323 for a two-round total of 73-over-par 649 to tie for seventh place in the 12-team tournament held on Saturday and Sunday at the Marshall Golf Club.
Augustana, which set a tournament 18-hole team record during Saturday's first round with a score of 292, won the team title with a tournament record of 9-over 589. The Vikings' Lanie Veenendall earned medalist honors with an ever-par 144. She set a tournament record during Saturday's first round with a 4-under 68, recording five birdies and 12 pars.
SMSU was led by
Jacqueline Gossen, who placed tied for 14
th in the 80-player field at 13-over 157. During Sunday's round, Gossen made one birdie and recorded 11 pars in shooting a team-low 6-over 78.
Danielle Podoll carded a 9-over 81 on Sunday with two birdies and seven pars and finished the tournament tied for 27
th at 17-over 161.
Lauryn Driscoll tied for 35
th overall at 20-over 164 following a Sunday round of 10-over 82, which included one birdie and 10 pars.
Berkley Steffen also shot a 10-over 82 on Sunday with one birdie and nine pars and closed the two-round tournament in a tied for 51
st at 26-over 170.
Ashley Trongard tied for 62
nd overall at 31-over 175 after recording a score of 18-over 90 on Sunday.
Isabella Jacobs played as an individual and tied for 46
th overall at 24-over 168. She finished with an 11-over 83 in the final round with 10 pars.
Meghan Pundsack placed 66
th at 37-over 181, while
Samantha Doherty tied for 69
th at 41-over 185.
SMSU returns to action on Oct. 9-10 at the University of Sioux Falls Invitational held at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa.
