WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2023-24 season on Tuesday earning a 16
th-place finish with a score of 112-over-par 672 at the 20-team Midwest Classic.
The 36-hole tournament was played at the par-70 Mules National Golf Club and was hosted by the University of Central Missouri.
SMSU was in 18
th place after round one at 352 but improved by 32 strokes in the final round to close with a score of 40-over 320.
Central Missouri captured the team title with a 22-over 582, finishing 25 shots ahead of second place Minnesota State. Hayley Jones from UCM earned medalist honors in the 112-player field with a score of 1-over 141.
Danielle Podoll and
Jacqueline Gossen led the Mustangs in the two-day tournament tying for 71
st overall at 26-over 166. Podoll shot a 10-over 80 on Tuesday with one birdie and eight pars, while Gossen went 11-over 81 in the final round with 10 pars.
Ashley Trongard carded a 10-over 80 with 10 pars on Tuesday and finished tied for 77
th at 28-over 168.
Lauryn Driscoll shot the lowest round among all Mustangs on Tuesday with a 9-over 79, which included one birdie and nine pars. She shot 35-over 175 to finish tied for 91
st overall.
Berkley Steffen shot a 20-over 90 in the final round to finish tied for 100
th overall at 43-over 183.
Three Mustangs competed as individuals with
Isabella Jacobs tying for 89
th place at 34-over 174, following a final round score of 20-over 90.
Samantha Doherty finished at 34-over 176 to finish in a tie for 93
rd, while
Meghan Pundsack closed at 54-over 194 to finish 105
th.
SMSU will return to competition in March 2024.
