ST. PETER, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams put together a strong day on Wednesday recording numerous first-place finishes, which included several meet records and one school record, at the Gustie Twilight hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
For the SMSU women's team,
Sierra Clifford set a school and meet record in the 400 meters with a first-place time of 57.16. She also was third in the 200 meters at 25.54.
Macie Langstraat set a meet record crossing the line first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.31, with teammate
Kyra Kusnierek finishing second at 2:21.07.
Rainbow Stands also set a meet record with a mark of 1.65m in the high jump to capture first place.
Shealyn Tom won the pole vault with a height of 3.07m, while
Zoe Ruschmeier placing second at 2.92m.
Hannah Koepfinger closed with a time of 15.77 in the 100 meter hurdles to finish second and also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:07.72.
Kate Battaforyen also picked-up a first place finish in the discus at 41.58m.
Nadia Sanford placed third in the shot put at 12.80m.
On the men's side, two meet records were set by the Mustangs.
Tyler Smith ran 49.16 to win the 400 meters with
Max Schmitt setting a record first-place time in 400 meter hurdles at 55.60. Smith also earned a second place finish in the 200 meters at 22.24.
Deekon Anvid captured the discus with a mark of 47.92m with
Tyler Nebelung finishing second at 45.47m. Nebelung was also second in the shot put at 14.88m.
Luke Grannes went 3.87m in the pole vault to earn first-place.
Junior Kandolo finished second in the long jump 6.40m, while
Carl Swedzinski was second in the hammer throw at 49.08m.
SMSU will next compete in Mankato, Minn., on May 3 at the Maverick Open #1 and on May 5 at the Maverick Open #2.
