VERMILLION, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams opened its outdoor season on Friday competing in day one of the University of South Dakota Early Bird at Lillibridge Track Complex.
The meet features nearly 30 teams from all over the region.
For the SMSU men's team,
Max Schmitt earned an eighth-place time of 55.86 in the 400 meter hurdles.
The shot put featured more than 60 competitors with
Tyler Nebelung pacing the Mustangs with a 23
rd place toss of 14.02m, while teammate
Carl Swedzinski finished 29
th at 13.40m.
Swedzinski closed at 46.06m in the hammer throw to finish 25
th out of more than 70, with Nebelung placing 36
th at 43.09m.
In the women's pole vault,
Serena Schwartz and
Shealyn Tom both placed 14
th with a height of 3.29m.
Hannah Koepfinger ran 1:08.04 to finish 14
th in the women's 400 meter hurdles.
Macie Langstraat finished 35
th out of nearly 100 in the 1,500 meters at 5:04.73, with
Catherine Ihrke placing 46
th at 5:10.94.
The second day of the meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
