ST. PAUL, Minn. – The second day of the 2023 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Concordia-St. Paul, wrapped-up Friday night at Sea Foam Stadium.
SMSU had one school record on Friday and had several athletes earn Top 10 finishes, including two advancing to finals on Saturday.
For the men's team,
Max Schmitt advanced to Saturday's final in the 400-meter hurdles with the second fastest time in the prelims with a time of 55.47.
Tyler Nebelung earned the team one point with an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.16m.
Deekon Anvid finished 18
th at 13.87m, while
Carl Swedzinski closed in 19
th at 13.85m. Swedzinski also finished ninth in the hammer throw at 49.74m.
Tyler Smith just missed advancing to the finals in the 400-meters placing ninth with a personal best time of 49.0.
Junior Kandolo had a strong showing in the long jump finishing ninth at 6.63m.
For the Mustang women,
Shealyn Tom earned 4.5 team points finishing fourth in the pole vault at 3.51m.
Sierra Clifford finished fifth in the prelims of the 400-meters with a time of 57.44 and will run in Saturday's final.
Rainbow Stands finished with a mark of 1.58m in the high jump to place tied for 13
th.
Nadia Sanford finished 16
th in the shot put at 12.45m with
Emily Lorentz placing 18
th at 12.21m.
Both
Taytum Klink and
Lexy Gilbert set personal bests in the 100-meters with Klink crossing at 12.54 to finish 16
th, while Gilbert placed 18
th with a time of 12.56.
SMSU's
Hannah Koepfinger competed on Thursday and Friday in the heptathlon and set a school record in the process with 3,983 points to place 15
th overall. She finished fourth in the 800-meters at 2:29.16, 10
th in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.38, 11
th in the 200-meters crossing the line at 26.85 and 16
th in the javelin at 23.65m. She also was 18
th in the shot put with a toss of 8.64m, placed 19
th in the long jump at 4.80m and was 22
nd in the high jump at 1.35m.
The final day of the three-day meet continues Saturday at 11 a.m.
